It includes hands-on activities, videos, and discussions to develop essential, real-life readiness babysitting skills. The Red Cross recommends babysitters be 11 years or older to participate in the recommended Babysitter’s Training course.
Babysitting Basics Online takes approximately 4 hours to complete. Upon passing the final exam, you will receive a certificate of completion.
Advanced Child Care Online takes approximately 4.5 hours to complete. Upon passing the final exam, you will receive a certificate of completion.
Babysitter Training takes approximately 5 hours to complete, usually offered in a single day. If Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED is added to the in-person training, the course will take just over 7 hours to complete. Upon successful completion of the course, you will receive a certification valid for 10 years.
No. At the Red Cross we provide those ages 11 and older with a comprehensive education in babysitting and child care best practices. However, it's important to note that none of our babysitting classes in Michigan are intended for state-licensed child care centers or day care providers, as our courses do not meet all the state requirements for such certification.
