• Lifeguard Training in Maryland

At the Red Cross we believe that the best lifeguarding classes in Maryland deliver consistent, hands-on instruction. That's why we only offer in-person classes for those in our Lifeguard and Aquatics programs, as well as a blended learning experience that combines online coursework with in-person skills sessions. This way, our instructors can ensure that you understand the techniques necessary for managing situations and providing care in a way that's safe for you and everyone in the water.

Designed for those who learn best in a traditional classroom environment, our in-person Maryland lifeguard certification classes include lecture, reading, and hands-on skills sessions. Throughout the course there will be ample time for students to ask questions, work through topics as a group, and become comfortable with the theories and practices of lifeguarding.

Created for those who want or need the freedom to learn at their own pace, our blended learning experience allows you to take online classes and demonstrate your skills in person to a trained, certified instructor. Once you've successfully completed both portions of the course, you'll receive your Maryland lifeguard certification, which is valid for two years.

In addition to traditional lifeguarding classes, in Maryland we also offer specialized training in waterpark and shallow water lifeguarding. Waterpark lifeguarding classes are designed specifically for those who hope to work as lifeguards at waterparks or pools with attractions and a maximum water depth of 3 feet or less, meanwhile shallow water lifeguarding classes are available to those who hope to work at an aquatic facility with a maximum water depth of 5 feet or less. Each type of lifeguard training takes less than 26 hours to complete, and can help you gain important skills and expand your employment opportunities.

When you sign up for Red Cross lifeguarding classes in Maryland, you'll gain access to knowledgeable, caring instructors who can help you achieve your goals. Throughout class, you'll refer to our lifeguard manual, as well as a variety of printed materials. All courses and materials taught by the Red Cross are developed under the guidance of, and reviewed by, the Red Cross Scientific Advisory Council, which works to ensure that you receive the latest information and best practices available.
